I was first introduced to the actors centre while at drama school, coming runner-up for the Alan Bates Bursary in 2008. It was my first experience of the ‘outside world’ as opposed to the security of drama school and I took so much from the support The Actors Centre gave me, immediately being made to feel part of the family and encouraged in pursuing my chosen profession.
Since becoming a member I’ve taken advantage of the numerous classes on offer, particularly the on-camera sessions. Having a place to go to continue training and meet other people who are committed to the same goal has been so beneficial.
There’s no doubt the classes I’ve attended helped me in gaining the roles I’ve had since graduating. In early 2009 I played Alex in the BBC series Material Girl and followed that with Stanley Park this year. In between filming I made my professional stage debut in The Priory at The Royal Court and am currently rehearsing Women Beware Women at The National Theatre. Alongside my professional work, a friend and I set up the theatre company WE. BUY. GOLD., our debut show Inches Apart won the Old Vic New Voices and Theatre 503 award.
